Synopsis
‘For my whole life I had been looking for home. But why would that be in a place that I’d left? Perhaps I had to keep moving forward in order to find it…’ Soon after upending her life to accompany her boyfriend Ryan to the Arctic, Maya realises it’s not all Northern Lights and husky sleigh rides. Instead, she’s facing sub-zero temperatures, 24-hour darkness, crippling anxiety – and a distant boyfriend as a result. In her loneliest moment, Maya opens her late mother’s recipe book and cooks Indian food for the first time. Through this, her confidence unexpectedly grows – she makes friends, secures a job as a chef, and life in the Arctic no longer freezes her with fear. But there’s a cost: the aromatic cuisine rekindles memories of her enigmatic mother and her childhood in Bangalore. Can Maya face the past and forge a future for herself in this new town? After all, there’s now high demand for a Curry Club in the Arctic, and just one person with the know-how to run it… A tender and uplifting story about family, community, and finding where you truly belong – guaranteed to warm your heart despite the icy setting!
My Review
The story line for this book was brilliant and so unique full of unexpected twists I really enjoyed it. I listened to the audiobook and I didn't like the narrator at all. Although her voice was nice it did not suit this book at all. I found it quite flat and quite a few words was not pronounced correct which irritated me slightly. There was no rise or fall in her voice to create any atmosphere or tension. As a book though it has to be a 4 or 5 star read but as an audiobook it is a 3.5 . I'm positive mainly of you will love this book. The characters were amazing as there was a wide range of personalities to love. I loved the growth of the main character through this book it was wonderful to read a unique sorry like this. The cover is brilliant. Bright and colourful which really depicts the story perfectly. This book is not your expected holiday romance book. Its a nice friendly warm hug of a book that is actually a good genre hybrid with bits of romance, women's fiction, thriller and seasonal general fiction book. Many thanks to the author and publishers for bringing this very fun and unique winter tale to keep us warm in these dark cold days.
