Synopsis
On an island between dream and reality, a young faun named Gabriel is fascinated by the extraordinary new creatures called unicorns. "A magical thing born of nature,” he muses... What mystery surrounds their birth? What place, what function do these mythical animals occupy in this imaginary world? Poetic and musical, The Day of the Unicorn approaches the fantastic from a peaceful, intimate angle. Each page is like a graphical haiku reflecting a feeling or idea rather than an event. The carefully crafted text supports this narrative idea and aims to awaken certain emotions buried in us. Spun from the pages of his unfinished graphic novel series by noted artist and author Manuel Arenas, this poetic fairy tale appeals to the innocence in all of us, exploring the mystery of unicorns from a child’s perspective.
My Review
This is an amazingly beautiful graphic novel. The pictures in this book are stunning. Each is like a piece of art work. I would go as far as saying a masterpiece. This book is worth every penny, just in the beauty of the pictures. The book short but the story is wonderful. This amazing fantasy book is aimed at 10 + audience but to be honest I feel they probably won't appreciate the stunning pictures whereas adults will. This is a book that you will go back to time and time again. I actually put this book in the same league as the boy , the mole, the fox, and the horse by Charlie Mackesy . This book just made me smile and feel so happy. The story follows the birth of a unicorn. The words read like poetry with depth and meaning. I just adored the use of colour. This book just has to become a bestseller.
Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this magical masterpiece. That I am positive you will love just as much as I did. I will definitely be looking out for more titles by this exceptionally talented author.
